Questions

The things people ask before they call.

If yours isn’t here, ring or email — a question is never a bother, and there is no charge for asking one.

What does a technology concierge actually do?

Whatever the technology in your life needs, so you don’t have to think about it. In practice that is Wi‑Fi that reaches the whole property, new phones and laptops set up and explained, smart lighting and climate that behave themselves, a home office that works for video calls, and photos and files backed up somewhere you can actually get them back from. The point is having one person who knows your whole setup, rather than a different stranger for every problem.

Do you come to my home?

Yes — most of the work happens in person, because most of it involves the actual room, the actual router, and the actual devices. Plenty of smaller things can be handled by phone or video instead if that suits you better.

Where do you work?

In person around Nashville and Middle Tennessee. A good deal can also be sorted by phone or video — a router setting, a phone that won’t back up, walking someone through a new laptop — so if you are a little further out it is still worth asking.

What if I’m not confident with technology?

That is the reason this exists. There are no stupid questions here, nothing is explained in jargon, and nothing is rushed. If you would rather I simply handle it and not explain, that is fine too — but the offer to explain is always there, as many times as you like.

Can you help a parent or relative who needs more patience than I can manage?

Often that is exactly who I am helping. Adult children get in touch as much as the person who ends up being looked after. I am happy to work directly with your parent, keep you in the loop, or both — whatever arrangement suits your family.

Do I have to sign up for a monthly plan?

No. You can work with me hourly at $150 an hour with no commitment at all. The monthly plans exist because most people find they want someone on call rather than someone they have to re-hire every time something goes wrong — they include hours each month, a faster guaranteed response, and a reduced rate beyond the included time.

What does it cost?

Hourly work is $150 an hour. Monthly care plans start at $80 a month and go up with the included hours, the response time, and the discount on anything beyond them. Every plan and what it includes is listed on the Services page.

How quickly will you get back to me?

Every care plan carries a guaranteed response time — 48 hours on the entry plan and 24 hours on the plans above it — and in practice it is usually a good deal faster than that. The exact guarantee for each plan is on the Services page.

What if I only have one problem, not an ongoing thing?

That is completely fine, and it is what the hourly rate is for. Plenty of people start with one thing that has been annoying them for months and never need anything else. There is no pressure to turn it into a plan.

Will you need my passwords, and what happens to them?

Sometimes setting something up genuinely needs you signed in. Where that happens I would rather you type the password yourself than tell it to me, and I don’t keep a record of anything I do see. If you would like passwords changed after a visit, just say so and we will do it together before I leave.

Do you work with businesses as well as homes?

Yes. A small business has the same problems as a busy household, usually with more at stake when something stops working — networking, devices, backups, and the meeting-room setup that has to work first time. I also design and look after websites for small businesses, which is on the Web design page.

What happens on the first call?

It is a conversation, not a sales pitch. Half an hour, no obligation, to hear what is frustrating you and work out whether I can help and what that would look like. If a plan is not the right fit I will say so.
